HABC Level 2 Award in Substance Misuse
This Level 2 course has been designed to build and further the knowledge of support staff working in the field of substance misuse. Students on the course will practise a variety ways to support and assist their service users with the daily challenges of drug addiction and substance misuse. There are no prerequisites to enrol on this course although a basic knowledge of substance misuse would be advantageous.
Students must achieve 8 credits by completing the first four mandatory units • Understand substance use/misuse • Understand how to recognize and respond to substance use/misuse • Understand the safe, sensible and social use of alcohol And a further 1 credit by completing one of the remaining five optional modules • Community responses to substance misuse • Options and interventions for those affected by substance use/misuse • Substance misuse and young people • Understand solvents and volatile substance abuse • Understand blood-borne infections related to substance use/misuse
Substance misuse awareness has become a standard course for many staff working in the care sector. The course helps employees to be made aware of the needs of the service user and what they can do to help manage the effects of substance misuse.
