CITB are the industry training board for the construction sector in Wales, England and Scotland. CITB are tasked with the responsibility attract talent and support skills development within the construction industry.
CITB have three key aims:
- To inform and enable the right people into the construction sector
- To develop a training and skills system to support demand
- To support the industry in training and developing its workforce.
To enable these aims, CITB have developed a funding strategy to contribute towards the financial cost and help remove the barriers to training, these strategies are outlined below.
CITB Grant Claims
CITB utilise a three tier grant system to help fund training. These courses are verified to meet the high industry standard, ensuring our learners have the right skills to support the construction industry to thrive. To establish what course falls under which tier click here.

So...What can Alpha Safety do to help?
As a CITB ATO (Approved Training Organisation), we run a wide variety of construction courses in line with the agreed industry standard. Our courses are evaluated and approved by CITB to ensure we provide our learners with the essential skills and knowledge required.
To claim the CITB grant from our applicable courses, you must be a CITB registered employer with up to date levy returns. Employers can provide us with their unique CITB reference number at point of booking or the course attendee can input this on our delegate forms on the day of training. Once we have recieved the course outcome, your unique reference number and other required learner information, our team will then upload your claim to the CITB training register on your behalf to submit your claim for the applicable tier grant funding.
Employer Network Scheme
What is the Employer Network?
The CITB Employer Network is an initiative set up by CITB in addition to the other funding streams, with the aim of simplifying the way CITB registered construction employers get the access and funding support to their training needs.
The employer network has two main objectives:
- To make it easier for registered companies to access training and funding
- To bring together employers at a local level to inform CITB on training needs
Unlike the CITB grant claim scheme, this funding can be used across a wide array of training, not just construction specific standards... In turn opening up many avenues to further upskill your team with the skills you need to succeed. Some examples of training now funded via the Employer Network include Highfield Level 3 First Aid at Work and our IOSH Managing Safely courses.
CITB will fund 70% of the cost training booked through the Employer Network, leaving just 30% of the course fee left to pay!
How can I utilise funding from the Employer Network?
The Employer Network is available for CITB registered employers with up to date levy returns. For more information regarding the initiative please click here.
How is a course booked & funded through the Employer Network?
Employers will work closely with their local advisor to identify the training required, preferred locations and dates. This training will then be processed by the CITB booking team and sent for processing to Alpha. Once booked, CITB cover 70% of the course fees and the remaining 30% is invoiced to the employer!
Alternatively, we can also support your training needs enquiry and signpost you to the Network with preferred course dates.
Does it cost to join the Employer Network?
No! Joining the network is completely free for all CITB registered employers with up to date levy returns. To register for the employer network scheme click here.
