Mental Health is growing to become one of the largest reasons for lost workdays, with 57% of working days being lost to stress, depression and anxiety.
The Facts
At the time of publish, 1 in 4 adults experience mental health problems or illnesses at some point during their lives. And in 2018, 349 people died in Wales alone due to mental ill-health.
In 2018, there were 6,507 suicides registered in the UK, 686 more than 2017 (5,821). And depression is thought to be a major contributor to the burden of suicide and ischemic heart disease.
355 tradespeople commit suicide each year in the UK this makes construction workers 63% more likely to die from suicide compared to the national average, this also means that construction workers are 10 times more likely to die from suicide than a work-related incident.
These Statistics are all very frightening but are important to consider.

Our Mental Health First Aid course is designed to teach an individual on improving and give crucial support for colleagues who may be suffering mental ill-health, as well as enable them to identify individuals at risk of mental ill-health, or experiencing a mental ill-health crisis.
Being able to identify these mental ill-health signs is half the battle, and then being able to take precautionary steps to help give your colleagues the best advice on seeking further support.
